Obama’s Cairo Speech Invigorates Chicago 2016

In his one-hour speech Thursday in Cairo, U.S. President Barack Obama touched on the Olympic Games when he spoke about how American Muslims have enriched the United States. He was referring to the lighting of the Olympic Torch by an American Muslim – Mohammad Ali, final torchbearer and cauldron lighter at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympic Games.

When asked about the reference, Patrick Sandusky, spokesman for Chicago 2016’s bid for the Summer Olympic Games, told GamesBids.com, “the president has been an ardent supporter of the Olympic Movement for a very long time and the Olympic bid in Chicago since its inception. His speech was a great example of how the United States is reaching out to the world, extending a hand of friendship.

Chicago extends lead for 2016 Games: Web site

 

Chicago widened its lead against its rivals for the 2016 Olympic Games in an index compiled by Around the Rings, an influential Web site that tracks the business of the games.

The city scored 80 out of 110 points in the latest ranking published by Ed Hula, editor of the Atlanta-based site. Madrid jumped into the No. 2 slot with a score of 78, ahead of Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, which both scored 76.

Chicago scored 77 in the previous assessment, in September 2008, just one point ahead of the other three cities at 76. It’s the first ranking by Around the Rings since visits to each city by an International Olympic Committee evaluation team in April.

Chicago Leads Race For 2016 Olympics; New Analysis Says Obama Key Factor; Madrid May Be City To Watch

 Chicago now holds the best chance of winning the 2016 Olympics, a new analysis said Monday.
The Around the Rings Olympic Power Bid Index ranked Chicago on top following the International Olympic Committee trips to the city and the other three candidate cities – Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro.
But the analysis said Madrid is gaining ground.
The analysis considers several factors, including accommodation and ambience, financial handling, security, transportation, venues, public support, marketing, cost, and Olympic legacy, among a few others.

Chicago gets top spot in 2016 rankings

 Chicago takes the top spot in the latest rankings of four cities hoping to host the 2016 Olympic Games.

Chicago maintains the lead in the latest edition of the “Around the Rings Olympic Bid Power Index.” The rankings were compiled following on-the-scene trips to each of the four nominated host cities.

Members of the International Olympic Committee toured Chicago back in April. Chicago scored 80 out of 110 possible points.
