O Globo newspaper, on Januray 01st, 2009, has summarized as follows the main challenges of the new Rio’s Mayor: (a) urban disorder; (b) chaotic traffic; (c) crisis in the health system; (d) low quality of education; (e) housing decficit; (e) more than 750 slams, being many of them located in protected enviromental areas.

The same article states that several members of the City Hall have been elected representing the drug dealers scheme.

I wonder if from the top of the Olympic Ferris Wheel, inaugurated in the City, the severe Avaliation Commission of the International Olympic Committe will be able to see all that. It is not even necessary to go up there to see al these matters.

This is not a priviledge of Rio. This is a picture of Brazil.

What would be more useful for the people of  Rio. To invest milions and milions of public money to try to headquarter an Olympic Games? Or, prior to that, to invest the same money to try to resolve the problems of the City?

The answer is so obvious.

O Globo do dia  01 de janeiro de 2.009, no primeiro caderno, analisando a Cidade e os desafios do Prefeito, resumiu a coisa da seguinte maneira: (a) desordem urbana, (b) trânsito caótico; (c) saúde em crise; (d) educação de baixa qualidade; (e) déficit habitacional; (f) mais de 750 favelas, muitas delas em áreas de proteção ambiental. A mesma matéria relata que a Câmara Municipal do Rio de Janeiro foi formada por currais eleitorais dominados pela milícia e pelo narcotráfico.

Não é privilégio do Rio. Isso é um retrato geral do Brasil.

Será que do alto da Roda Gigante, os membros do Comitê de Avaliação do Comitê Internacional Olímpico vão deixar de ver isso? Não é preciso nem ir lá em cima para avistar tais questões.

Não seria muito mais útil aos brasileiros  investir milhões e milhões de dinheiro público para, antes de tentar sediar uma olímpíada, resolver as mazelas sociais do País?

A resposta é tão óbvia.
